Handbook on Vitamin A Tracer Dilution Methods to Assess Status and Evaluate Intervention Programs

چکیده
HarvestPlus Technical Monographs are designed to provide a forum for HarvestPlus research outputs. Technical Monographs can be of two kinds: • state-of-the-art reviews that help to establish and define HarvestPlus research questions or • " gold standard " procedures to be followed in HarvestPlus research. HarvestPlus technical monographs are written by recognized experts in the field and are externally peer reviewed prior to publication. The vitamin A Tracer Task Force was initiated by IAEA, USAID, and HarvestPlus to prepare a series of three documents. The first on the appropriate use of vitamin A tracer (stable isotope) methods was published in 2004 by USAID/ILSI through the Micronutrient Global Leadership(MGL) project: handbook us the second Tracer Force Handbook and is being published as a HarvestPlus Technical Monograph. The third handbook will be on model-based estimates of absorption efficiency and will be published by the IAEA in 2005. Possible Effect of Pilates Exercises and Vitamin D on Renal Function Parameters in Overweight Men: A Randomized Clinical Trial
Background and Objectives: Obesity and vitamin D deficiency have been recognized as important risk factors for chronic kidney disease. The use of safe and low-risk non-pharmacological interventions is recommended to reduce and or prevent chronic diseases. The current study aimed to assess the effect of Pilates training and vitamin D on renal function parameters in overweight men. Methods: This...
متن کاملEffects of Vitamin D Supplementation on Depression Status, Selected Pro-inflammatory Biomarkers and Neurotransmitters in Depressive Patients: A Study Protocol
Background and Objectives: Up to date, several pathophysiological mechanisms are suggested for evolution of depression, including inflammation, neurotransmitter and vitamin D pathways. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of vitamin D supplementation on serum 25-hydroxycalciferol [25(OH) D], intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH), some pro-inflammatory biomarkers and neurotransmitters su...

Vitamin A is essential for multiple functions in mammals. Without vitamin A, mammals cannot grow, reproduce, or fight off disease. Because of its numerous functions in humans, biomarkers of vitamin A status are quite diverse. Assessment of liver reserves of vitamin A is considered the gold standard because the liver is the major storage organ. However, this measure is not feasible in human stud...

متن کاملComparisons among Equations Used for Retinol Isotope Dilution in the Assessment of Total Body Stores and Total Liver Reserves.
Vitamin A plays an essential role in animal biology and has negative effects associated with both hypo- and hypervitaminosis A. Many notable interventions are being done globally to eliminate vitamin A deficiency, including supplementation, fortification, and biofortification. At the same time, it is important to monitor vitamin A status in nations where preformed vitamin A intake is high becau...
